FAQ
How exactly does this work?
After choosing between either The Hormone Blueprint or The Clinical Protocol, you will complete a short intake form, and we’ll coordinate the next steps for your hormone testing. You’ll receive a lab requisition, complete your bloodwork in person, and then get results-based guidance focused on natural optimization.
The Hormone Blueprint includes your testing foundation and personalized guide.
The Clinical Protocol adds a private 1-on-1 consultation with a Naturopathic Doctor.
Can I improve my hormones naturally, or do I need TRT?
TRT can be appropriate for some men, but it is not the first step for everyone. Many factors can influence hormone health, including sleep, stress, nutrition, training, recovery, body composition, and nutrient status.
Androgen Lab is built for men who want to understand what is going on first, then take a natural-first approach before considering medication. If your results suggest something that needs medical follow-up, we’ll guide you toward the appropriate next step.
How is this different from seeing my family doctor?
Family doctors are important, but many only order basic testosterone screening — often just Total Testosterone and often stop there if it's "in range," even if you're clearly not feeling like yourself.
We built Androgen Lab around the part that's usually missing: Interpretation and Follow-through.
- We test the full picture, not one number. Five markers together: Total T, Free T, SHBG, AM Cortisol, Estradiol — because a "normal" Total T can hide a real problem (high cortisol suppressing your androgen production, or high SHBG quietly eating into your usable testosterone won't show up if you're only looking at one line on a lab report).
- You get an interpretation that becomes an action plan. A clinician reads your five markers against your symptoms, lifestyle, and goals — then builds a personalized natural optimization protocol: sleep, training, nutrition, stress, supplementation. TRT is one path, and it's not the first one we reach for.
- We're built specifically for this. Androgen Lab isn't a walk-in clinic juggling fifty other things — men's hormone optimization is the entire focus, from testing through to your protocol, in one streamlined process.
If your body's telling you something your last lab report didn't explain, this is the appointment you didn't get.
Which lab do I go to?
You’ll receive instructions after completing your intake. Testing is done in person through an appropriate Ontario Lifelabs location based on the requisition pathway used for your panel.
We’ll provide clear next steps before you book or complete your bloodwork.
Is this covered by OHIP or my insurance/HSA?
This is a private-pay service and isn’t covered by OHIP.
The Hormone Blueprint is generally not expected to be HSA/insurance covered because it does not include a live clinician consultation.
The Clinical Protocol may be eligible for HSA or extended health benefits because it includes a 1-on-1 consultation with a Naturopathic Doctor. Coverage depends on your specific plan, provider, and eligibility rules. We’ll provide receipts and documentation you can submit for reimbursement where applicable.
How long until I get results?
- Your clinician reviews your intake and issues the requisition within 1 business day.
- Bring it to any LifeLabs location. We recommend booking an appointment in advance, as the wait time is significantly shorter than walk-in (<15 minutes).
- Results come back in 2 to 3 business days. Your clinician turns those into your protocol within 1 to 2 business days after that.
- For The Clinical Protocol: You will have the option to book an appointment with our clinicians, after completing the intake form.
Total time, intake to plan: About a week.
